NEW BRISBANE STADIUM TO BE BUILT AT VICTORIA PARK FOR 2032

New Brisbane stadium to be built at Victoria Park for 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games
βIn a decisive move to ensure the success of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, Premier David Crisafulli has unveiled plans for a new 63,000-seat stadium at Victoria Park. This initiative follows a comprehensive 100-day independent review of venues, infrastructure, and transportation. The Premier emphasized that time constraints rendered the redevelopment of the Gabba unfeasible, stating, “It became a choice between the embarrassment of hosting the games at QSAC or a new stadium at Victoria Park. In the end, the choice was clear. The Games must be held at a new stadium at Victoria Park.” β
Complementing the stadium, the government plans to construct a National Aquatic Centre at the Centenary Pool site in Spring Hill. This state-of-the-art facility will feature multiple pools and accommodate up to 25,000 spectators during the Games. The development has garnered support from key sporting organizations, many of which are expected to relocate their headquarters to Brisbane.
The RNA Showgrounds will undergo significant upgrades to host the athletes’ village and transform its main arena into a 20,000-seat venue for key events. Additionally, the Queensland Tennis Centre will see the addition of a 3,000-seat show court arena and 12 new match courts, ensuring that Olympic tennis remains in Brisbane. Premier Crisafulli asserted, “Melbourne will not be taking the tennis from Brisbane β not on our watch.” β
In a strategic shift, the government has decided not to proceed with the proposed Brisbane Live arena at Roma Street. Instead, the $2.5 billion in federal funding will be redirected to support the new stadium, aquatic center, and tennis facilities. The Premier highlighted that private sector proposals could deliver a Brisbane arena at a fraction of the cost to taxpayers. β
This comprehensive plan underscores the government’s commitment to delivering a world-class Olympic experience that leaves a lasting legacy for Brisbane and Queensland. By investing in these key infrastructure projects, the state positions itself to host a memorable and successful 2032 Games.
